Instructional Designer, 2 Hour Learning (Remote) - $200,000/year USD
Job Description
Posted on: May 20, 2026
This role is suited to academic leaders who prefer to design the infrastructure rather than critique it from the sidelines. You possess enough subject expertise to recognize excellent learning when you see it, sufficient rigor to translate that understanding into rubrics and AI-driven quality controls, and enough pragmatism to act decisively on imperfect data. Student improvement matters to you, and you are prepared to be evaluated by that metric. 2 Hour Learning pursues an approach that much of the software and education sectors avoid. No teachers exist in this model, no textbooks appear, and no familiar scaffolding of traditional pedagogy supports the product. AI serves as the core operational framework. In this capacity, you apply it to produce and refine learning materials, architect interventions, oversee quality standards, and advance the platform. The tempo resembles high-stakes tech, consulting, or finance more than traditional schooling, and the reward is direct accountability for student outcomes in your subject area across multiple sites. This position centers on operating a function. You will construct AI-enabled enhancements to the learning ecosystem, react to student performance indicators with focused interventions, develop evidence-grounded decision documentation, and lead a team measured against explicit benchmarks tied to MAP, AP, SAT, and ISEE performance. You will also collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data science teams to determine the platform's next requirements. This is designed for someone who instinctively reaches for AI, conducts independent analysis, executes under uncertainty, and accepts complete ownership of outcomes. It will not suit anyone who favors deliberate consensus-building, minimal accountability, or established methodologies. You will serve as a central figure within the academics team, wielding genuine influence over your subject's performance and the evolution of the broader learning infrastructure. Those around you will depend on your benchmarks, your discernment, and your capacity to translate student data into meaningful action. If that prospect feels motivating rather than daunting, this role is likely designed for you. What You Will Be Doing
- Learning Ecosystem Enhancements — AI-generated refinements to subject-specific K–12 learning experiences spanning content, adaptive pathways, and student interventions, informed by student feedback, analytics, assessments, and coaching insights.
- Data-Driven Academic Interventions — Focused intervention strategies for underperforming students or cohorts, guided by MAP, AP, SAT, ISEE, and related performance metrics.
- Student Performance Decision Records — Replicable, evidence-supported decisions that document actions taken to improve student performance, backed by dashboards, analytics, tickets, surveys, coaching calls, and assessment data.
- Learning Ecosystem Improvement Specs — Actionable specifications for product, engineering, and data science enhancements, featuring problem statements, supporting evidence, anticipated student impact, and acceptance criteria.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Wrapping traditional pedagogy in AI branding. This is not about digitizing classroom instruction – we are redesigning learning from foundational principles.
- Working with data in a vacuum. Regular interaction with K-12 students is expected, treating their input as critical feedback from our paying customers.
- Waiting for agreement before testing new ideas. You will advocate for an ambitious vision and mobilize others around results grounded in data.
- Relying on established practices. You will have freedom to trial novel strategies for motivation, assessment, and pedagogy.
- Viewing AI as a risk to education. In this environment, you will leverage AI as a powerful instrument to transform learning, not a challenge to be contained.
Instructional Designer Key Responsibilities Lead innovation in AI-driven, teacher-less education to produce outstanding student outcomes across multiple campuses. Combine data analytics with consistent student interaction to continually refine our learning ecosystem, as evaluated by AP exam results and MAP assessment growth. Basic Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Educational Science, Learning Science, Psychology, Psychometrics, Instructional Design, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in academic or EdTech leadership roles, with direct people management responsibility (hiring, performance evaluation, coaching, termination decisions)
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools as part of day-to-day professional workflows, and willingness to rely on AI extensively to improve academic and operational outcomes.
- Strong understanding of learning science principles, such as Cognitive Load Theory and Mayer's Multimedia Principles, and data-driven educational approaches
