At CVS Health, we’re building a world of health around every consumer and surrounding ourselves with dedicated colleagues who are passionate about transforming health care. As the nation’s leading health solutions company, we reach millions of Americans through our local presence, digital channels and more than 300,000 purpose-driven colleagues – caring for people where, when and how they choose in a way that is uniquely more connected, more convenient and more compassionate. And we do it all with heart, each and every day. Position SummaryEngineering Manager – Data Team (Legacy System Deprecation & Migration)About The Role We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a data engineering team that owns legacy data pipelines, APIs, and UIs. The primary mission of this role is to drive the deprecation and migration of these systems—transitioning responsibilities to other teams and modern platforms while ensuring business continuity. This role requires a leader who can manage complex technical transitions, collaborate across multiple teams, and keep initiatives moving forward. You’ll report to the Director of Application Engineering.

  • Lead and manage a data engineering team responsible for SSIS, ADF, Kafka, and related legacy systems, with a focus on decommissioning and migrating these technologies to modern solutions and teams.
  • Define and execute a clear roadmap for deprecation, working closely with engineering, product, and operations to ensure smooth handoffs and minimal business disruption.
  • Oversee the transition of Angular UIs and C#/.NET APIs to other teams while ensuring code, data flows, and documentation are cleanly handed over.
  • Foster a culture of technical accountability while motivating the team through a time of change.
  • Partner with architecture, platform, and product teams to align on future-state solutions and retire outdated technologies.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, ensuring they have the support, clarity, and technical direction needed during transition efforts.
  • Track and communicate progress on migration/deprecation initiatives to senior stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with legacy technology retirement.
  • Cultivate strong cross-team relationships, particularly with those assuming ownership of decomposed services and data pipelines.
  • Lead diverse, remote teams to build and maintain business-critical, enterprise-grade systems using modern technology and techniques; having a strong focus on pragmatic delivery.
  • Grow individual contributors through regular guidance, mentorship and support.
  • Collaboratively devise and communicate detailed designs for a variety of systems.
  • Establish strong Product, Design and Operational partnerships.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, and incorporate them into development practices when appropriate.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Affect organizational change through direct/indirect influence, effective communication and persuasion.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software/data engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of experience leading engineering teams (including data-focused teams).
  • Proven experience with data integration technologies (SSIS, ADF) and event-driven systems (Kafka).
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based data pipelines (Azure preferred) and modern data engineering practices.
  • Experience managing legacy system migrations or large-scale deprecations.
  • Solid understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and enterprise data flows.
  • Experience with .NET/C# and modern web stacks (e.g., Angular, React).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tooling, especially Azure DevOps (AzDO).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to drive alignment among multiple engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through ambiguity and organizational change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with breaking monoliths into microservices and distributing ownership across teams.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Prior success in organizational change management within engineering teams.
