Technical Lead / Full Stack Software Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client, for a remote based Technical Lead / Full Stack Software Engineer.

The tech team works across hardware, software, and AI, and we’re looking for a Technical Lead who thrives in a fast-moving, hands-on environment and is happy to get stuck in across the business.

The Role:

You’ll take ownership of the technology stack, shaping, building, and scaling the next generation of products. Working closely with the founders, you’ll make architectural decisions, lead a small engineering team, and contribute directly to the codebase.

You’ll also collaborate with manufacturing partners in Asia, ensuring smooth integration between software and hardware. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on engineering, perfect for someone who enjoys planning, coding, and problem-solving across multiple areas.

Tech Stack:

The business is modern, pragmatic, and flexible. You don’t need experience in every tool - strong engineering fundamentals, adaptability, and curiosity matter most.

  • React + Next.js: Web applications are the lion’s share of the work; deep expertise required
  • React Native: Mobile apps for field workers; experience is beneficial but not as critical as React web
  • TypeScript & Node.js: Across backend, web, and mobile
  • Postgres + Supabase: For database and real-time updates (any relational DB experience helps)
  • Prisma: For schema management (ORM experience transferable)
  • Railway & Vercel: For hosting, scaling, and orchestration (general cloud/CI/CD knowledge sufficient)
  • OpenAI integrations: Currently light but with big plans to expand this offering
  • CI/CD, testing, observability: pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring

What You’ll Do:

  • Own and evolve the technical stack across backend, frontend, and mobile
  • Lead a small engineering team and guide technical decisions
  • Architect scalable systems for real-time device data
  • Collaborate with founders on technical strategy, AI integrations, and product direction
  • Coordinate with manufacturing partners in Asia on firmware, testing, and production
  • Maintain high standards of coding, testing, and documentation
  • Be versatile and willing to get involved across the business - this is a hands-on startup environment

What You Bring:

  • Strong coding ability in React, TypeScript, Node.js
  • Proven experience leading projects or small teams
  • Deep understanding of web application architecture
  • Comfortable working across backend, frontend, and hardware discussions
  • Familiarity with React Native a plus, but not requirement
  • Experience with SQL, relational databases, and ORMs (Supabase/Prisma experience helpful)
  • General cloud/CI/CD knowledge
  • Curiosity and interest in AI integration
  • A mix of strategic thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on delivery

Why Join:

You’ll join a stable, VC-backed startup with real traction, building technology that makes a tangible difference in people’s safety. You’ll have autonomy, visibility, and impact, shaping the product, team, and company. In the small team, every contribution matters, and your work will be seen and valued.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 base (negotiable depending on experience)
  • Equity: Meaningful share options, real ownership in what you build
  • Remote-first: Work anywhere in the UK (or ±1hr time zone)
  • Flexible hours: The company focus on outcomes, not clock time
  • High impact: Build the product, grow the team, and influence company direction

Growth opportunity: You’ll have the opportunity to own a product that truly makes a difference, collaborate directly with the founders on shaping strategy and technical direction, build and lead the engineering team from scratch, and position yourself for a future CTO role as the company grows.
