Senior Product Engineer
Job Description
Posted on: May 5, 2026
Senior Product Engineer (Backend + Full-Stack, AI-Native)$5000 - $12000 USD / monthRemoteAbout the Client
This company is a multi-family access platform — intercoms, video, mobile unlock, property-manager dashboards, resident apps. We protect 12,000+ doors today and we ship to physical hardware, so reliability is product quality, not someone else's problem.
Our smart access technology focuses on solving major challenges and pain points for the multifamily industry including resident security and safety, visitor and guest access, and delivery and package management. Reach out today to learn more.
Reasons Not to Apply
This is not a senior-engineer-on-a-team role. We are hiring an engineer who will own a product end-to-end — talk to customers, decide what to build, design it, ship it with AI tools, watch adoption, and decide what to kill. If you want to write code against a PM's spec, this is the wrong job.
Do not apply if:
- You have not shipped at least 3 products from a blank repo to real users with adoption you can cite.
- You have not used Claude Code, Cursor, or an equivalent AI agent for the last 90 days in a real codebase.
- Your last hands-on coding was more than 12 months ago.
- You've spent your career in one domain and one stack and don't want to leave it.
- You expect a PM, a designer, and a tech lead to scope your work for you.
If any of those describe you, you'll be unhappy here and we'll be unhappy too. Save us both the loop.
What you'll do
You'll own one or two products end-to-end. In a typical month you'll: take 3–5 customer calls (property managers, residents, installers); decide what's worth building; design the system end-to-end; ship most of the code with Claude Code or Cursor while reviewing every diff like it's a junior teammate's PR; instrument what you ship; and either double down or kill it based on the data. You'll also have generous AI tool credits (Claude Code, Cursor, anything else you can justify). We expect you to use them. The output bar is "would have taken a 4-person team six weeks two years ago."
What you bring
- 3–5 products shipped end-to-end that you can name, point to, and give us an adoption number for. Side projects with real users count.
- Polyglot full-stack range. Productive on day one in at least two of: Python (FastAPI/Django), TypeScript/Node, Go. Comfortable in a modern frontend (React/Next preferred).
- AI-native engineering practice. You can describe, in detail, where AI accelerates you and where you turn it off (security boundaries, novel algorithms, user-trust UX).
- Customer instinct. A specific story of killing or pivoting a feature based on what you heard from users.
- System judgment. You can argue index strategy and button placement in the same meeting and be right about both.
- Production-reliability bar. You've operated services where outages have real consequences, not just dashboards.
- Bonus: hardware-adjacent experience (IoT, BLE, video streaming, OTA), or you've been one of the first 5 engineers at a startup that shipped.
