Staff Mobile Software Engineer (React Native / Flutter) - 4-month contract to hire - 100% Remote

Optomi, in partnership with a national leader in rail transportation and logistics, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join a high-impact engineering team responsible for building next-generation mobile applications that integrate with real-world devices and field hardware. This role will play a critical part in designing and developing mobile solutions from the ground up, translating business requirements and UX concepts into scalable, production-ready React Native applications, with a long-term focus on Flutter.

  • Leading the development of brand-new mobile applications from existing web platforms
  • Influencing architecture, system design, and mobile strategy decisions
  • Working on applications that interact with real-world devices such as sensors, cameras, and GPS hardware
  • Owning solutions end-to-end across mobile front end, backend services, and integrations
  • Helping shape the long-term transition toward Flutter as the strategic mobile platform

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience developing mobile applications using React Native and/or Flutter
  • Experience designing and delivering mobile applications from scratch
  • Solid system design and architecture experience, including scalable mobile and backend integrations
  • Experience translating business requirements and UX concepts into technical solutions
  • Experience working with device integrations such as sensors, cameras, GPS, or other hardware-connected systems
  • Strong understanding of mobile application performance, scalability, and maintainability best practices

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mobile applications using React Native and Flutter
  • Lead architecture and system design for new mobile platforms built from existing web solutions
  • Translate business and UX requirements into scalable technical implementations
  • Build full-stack capabilities, including backend services and integrations where needed
  • Integrate mobile applications with field devices such as sensors, cameras, and GPS systems
  • Collaborate with product, UX, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality user experiences
  • Establish best practices for mobile development, testing, and deployment
  • Contribute to long-term mobile strategy, including Flutter adoption and modernization efforts
