Staff Software Engineer (React / Node.js / Java) – Contract to Hire - 100% Remote
Optomi, in partnership with a leading healthcare provider, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to support the development of a patient-facing healthcare application. This role will focus on hands-on full-stack development, building scalable features and integrations, and improving application quality through automated testing and modern CI/CD practices.
We are looking for an experienced engineer who can contribute across React, Node.js, and Java while providing technical leadership, mentoring other developers, and taking ownership of solutions from design through delivery.

Role Responsibilities:
- Design and develop full-stack application features using React, Node.js, and Java
- Build reusable components, APIs, and services supporting patient-facing workflows
- Develop and support healthcare data integrations and application services
- Build automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve release quality
- Support cloud-based and containerized application deployments
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making
- Mentor developers, identify technical improvements, and help drive solutions through completion
Technical Environment: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Java, REST APIs, HL7, FHIR, AWS, Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Jest, Cypress
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of software development experience
- Strong full-stack development experience with React and Node.js
- Experience developing backend applications and services with Java
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs and modern web applications
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
- AWS and containerized application experience
- Healthcare development experience; HL7/FHIR knowledge preferred
- Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentoring developers
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and ownership skills
