Position Description: Volunteer Front-End Developer (Next.js)Location: Remote / Flexible

Position Type: Volunteer (flexible hours, ideally 5–10 hours/week)

People for Nature is a citizen-led non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering individuals to reconnect with and protect the natural world. Through participative workshops, conservation actions, and citizen science, we aim to inspire meaningful action and foster a deeper understanding of climate and biodiversity challenges.

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate Volunteer Front-End Developer to help us build and maintain our web applications using Next.js. This is an opportunity to contribute your skills to a meaningful cause, collaborate with a small but passionate team, and gain experience in a mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain web applications using Next.js and React.
  • Collaborate with designers and other developers to implement user-friendly interfaces.
  • Assist in building responsive, accessible, and high-performance web pages.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise existing code.
  • Contribute ideas for improving the web platform and user experience.
  • Work alongside the team to deliver projects on time, while balancing volunteer hours.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong experience with Next.js and React.
  • Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or similar backend integration.
  • Understanding of web performance optimisation and accessibility standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn and share knowledge.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Git/GitHub for version control.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., Vercel, AWS) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects.
