Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a growing software engineering team building complex, production-grade applications in a highly regulated industry. This is an AI-native engineering environment where AI coding agents are deeply integrated into the software development lifecycle. Engineers are expected to use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar platforms to accelerate development while maintaining full ownership of architecture, code quality, testing, security, and production reliability.

This is not a traditional role where AI is used primarily for autocomplete or occasional assistance. The ideal candidate has already developed effective workflows for using AI agents to plan, build, test, review, and refine production software. The position is best suited for a strong senior-level generalist who is comfortable working across the full application stack and quickly becoming productive in unfamiliar areas of a large codebase.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deliver production software across the full application stack, including database, backend/API, frontend, and supporting infrastructure.
• Use AI coding agents as a core part of the development workflow to accelerate feature development, troubleshooting, refactoring, and testing.
• Break complex engineering work into clear specifications and implementation plans that can be effectively executed using AI-assisted development tools.
• Manage multiple AI-assisted development sessions while maintaining appropriate context, scope, and technical direction.
• Critically review AI-generated code for logical errors, architectural issues, performance concerns, inadequate testing, and unintended production impact.
• Determine when AI-assisted development is appropriate and when direct hands-on coding is the better approach.
• Improve internal AI development workflows through project instructions, custom commands, subagents, hooks, MCP integrations, automated testing, and CI/CD controls.
• Debug complex production issues across application, database, integration, background processing, and browser-side environments.
• Participate in architecture decisions and continuously improve engineering standards, development processes, and platform reliability.
• Work effectively in an environment where requirements may evolve and engineers are expected to ask strong technical questions and independently drive work forward.

Technical Environment

Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, React Router, TanStack Query

Backend: Node.js, Express, Zod, PostgreSQL, Background job processing/job queues

Testing: Vitest, Playwright, End-to-end and automated testing

Development & DevOps: pnpm, Docker, GitHub Actions, CI/CD automation

Integrations / Data Exchange: REST APIs, SFTP, Structured data exchange formats, Healthcare interoperability technologies may include X12 EDI, HL7v2, and FHIR

*Candidates are not expected to have experience with every technology listed. The ability to quickly understand and become productive within an unfamiliar portion of the technology stack is more important.

Required Qualifications

• Senior-level software engineering experience delivering production applications.
• Strong experience working across multiple areas of the stack, including frontend, backend, databases, APIs, and supporting infrastructure.
• Strong TypeScript development experience.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience, including the ability to troubleshoot query performance, indexing, and execution plans.
• Significant hands-on experience using modern AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or equivalent platforms as part of the primary software development workflow.
• Experience reviewing and validating AI-generated code rather than relying on generated output without technical verification.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, testing, debugging, code review, and production reliability.
• Ability to work independently in environments where requirements may not always be fully defined.
• Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Must reside in the United States and be able to work standard U.S. business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Claude Code workflows, including project instructions, custom commands, subagents, hooks, MCP servers, headless execution, or CI automation.
• Spec-driven, plan-first, or agent-driven software development workflows.
• Building evaluation and verification processes for AI-generated software.
• Developing with AI agents inside large monolithic repositories or complex enterprise codebases.
• Designing workflows that improve the reliability and efficiency of the AI-assisted development lifecycle.
• Experience in healthcare, financial services, insurance, or another highly regulated software environment.
• Experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as:
• X12 EDI / 837 / 835
• HL7v2
• FHIR
• Familiarity with HIPAA, protected data, or similar data privacy and security requirements.
• Healthcare Industry-specific experience is helpful but not required.
