Principal Javascript Engineer

The Role 

The core mission of our engineers is to build a product that our customers will love. You'll be collaborating with colleagues across the globe, and our Head of Engineering based in Australia. Your role will see you: 

• Contributing to the planning, design, creation, testing, and documentation of features and web services provided by Sked. You’ll be integral in building advanced architecture and automation for better product and engineering performance. 
• Practice a high degree of ownership and be confident responding to requests for information and advice, whilst balancing competing demands to be sure we achieve our objectives.
• Develop novel solutions leveraging AI technologies. We are investing heavily in applying AI where it provides utility. We all use AI in our daily work and we have many AI features both in the product and our pipeline that use models from major providers.
• Sharing knowledge, ideas and solutions with your team, removing technical debt, mentoring other engineers and implementing best practices to support our culture. Communication is as important as coding and you’ll collaborate constantly when building product features.  

Our current tech stack is MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, and Node), running on AWS. We have some legacy but we are removing and replacing it as we go. We integrate with social media API endpoints such as Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google My Business, etc, CI/CD, and many BI tools for engineering and product planning. 

Skills you’ll bring to be a good fit: 

• Deep expertise with Javascript/Typescript software development. Likely 8+ years of fullstack experience across React and Node.js, but we care about your impact more than years of experience.
• You can prefer backend or frontend but we expect you are comfortable diving into any part of the system, whether it's infrastructure, services, or product frontends, to deliver effective solutions.
• You have embraced AI-assisted development. You use a TUI or other non-IDE coding environment daily. You know which models are better at various tasks. You use it to debug. You can evaluate LLM output.
• You have built and shipped real product features before (that is, something people paid for), ideally in a B2B SaaS environment.
• You have a positive and solution-oriented mindset, with a proactive and pragmatic approach. You know when to ask for help to drive a project forward.
• You have proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient for success in a remote and largely asynchronous work environment.
• You must have effective communication skills: Regularly achieve consensus with peers, provide clear and consistent status updates, with a positive and solution-oriented mindset.
• Can have demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions.

Some understanding or experience in social media management and/or social networks (from a business users' perspective or their API) is highly desirable but not essential.
