About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer, Frontend, to join our Advanced Trading team within the Consumer & Business group. In this strategic role, you will lead the development and execution of the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, our sophisticated trading platform designed for experienced traders. Your responsibilities will include owning the performance, reliability, and scalability of our web and mobile trading clients, ensuring low-latency interfaces that support various trading instruments. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical architecture of a high-impact product at the intersection of cryptocurrency, trading infrastructure, and consumer-facing technology. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, mentor senior engineers, and drive initiatives that enhance user experience and system robustness, shaping the future of digital asset trading platforms.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, particularly in frontend development
- Expertise in modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or equivalent technologies
- Strong background in mobile development environments
- Proven experience optimizing complex UI systems for performance, including rendering, network efficiency, and state management at scale
- Experience leading technical strategy and architecture decisions for product areas
- Track record of mentoring senior engineers and improving team engineering standards
- Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems, especially in trading or financial platforms
- Ability to translate business priorities into technical plans and deliver high-impact features
- Experience with generative AI applications, maintaining responsible use and human oversight
Responsibilities
- Define and own the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced, ensuring scalability and reliability across web and mobile platforms
- Drive performance improvements in rendering, network utilization, and state management to deliver a low-latency trading experience
- Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives from conception to implementation, setting high standards for code quality and system design
- Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering growth and elevating technical decision-making within the team
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to align technical strategies with business goals and deliver impactful features
- Establish scalable front-end engineering practices and conventions to accelerate development velocity
- Ensure the robustness and security of trading interfaces, maintaining high standards for system performance and user experience
