About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Software Engineer, Frontend, to join our Advanced Trading team within the Consumer & Business group. In this pivotal role, you will lead the technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, our platform tailored for experienced traders. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the performance, reliability, and scalability of our web and mobile trading clients, ensuring low-latency interfaces that support a diverse range of trading instruments. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence both the platform’s architecture and the engineering team responsible for building it. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and engineering leaders, to translate business needs into robust technical solutions. The role demands a strategic mindset, technical excellence, and a passion for building high-performance, scalable trading systems that meet the demanding needs of professional traders in the crypto space.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong background in front-end development
- Deep expertise in modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or equivalent technologies
- Extensive experience in mobile development environments
- Proven track record of optimizing complex UI systems for performance, including rendering, network efficiency, and state management at scale
- Experience leading technical strategy, architecture decisions, and multi-quarter initiatives for a product area
- Strong mentoring skills with success in guiding senior engineers and elevating team standards
- Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems, particularly in trading platforms, financial systems, or real-time data applications
- Experience utilizing generative AI responsibly to enhance workflows and deliver business value
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Own and define the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced, including architecture decisions that ensure platform reliability, scalability, and performance
- Drive measurable improvements in UI rendering, network efficiency, and state management to deliver a low-latency trading experience for users
- Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives from conception to deployment, setting high standards for code quality and system design
- Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous growth within the team
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to translate business priorities into technical plans and deliver high-impact features
- Establish and promote front-end engineering best practices, patterns, and conventions that support scalable development as the team grows
- Ensure the performance, reliability, and security of the trading platform across web and mobile clients
- Participate in cross-team collaborations to align on technical strategies and share knowledge
