About the Company:
We are partnering with an early-stage, venture-backed technology company that is redefining how the U.S. government manages and disseminates sensitive information. Their core product applies advanced AI to accelerate secure classification, compliance, and document workflows across the Department of Defense.
Currently supporting multiple active DoD contracts, this team has raised over $15M from top-tier investors and is building state-of-the-art AI tools designed specifically for use in classified and highly regulated environments. This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-moving startup solving some of the governmentâs most complex and mission-critical challenges with cutting-edge technology.
About the Role:
As a Software Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in developing our core technology and application, leveraging LLMs and other models to enable challenging document-centric functionality, including parsing, search, and rule application. We are seeking an engineer with a generalist skillset and attitude, diverse technical background, and a willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job. Youâll be working on a small tight-knit technical team, with the opportunity to help define and mature our architecture and processes as we grow.
This is a rare opportunity to own infrastructure strategy in a zero-trust, high-impact environment, while helping solve real national security problems.
Primary Responsibilities:
- System Design: Help design the architecture of a system with multiple AI models, a set of backend APIs, and a frontend web application.
- System Implementation: Write code within a small team, being able to strike a reasonable balance between velocity and writing maintainable code.
- System Deployment: Help create a deployment pipeline flexible enough to deploy our code into both commercial infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc.) and government networks (NIPR, SIPR, etc.).
- Product Development: Work with users and other team members to help define and refine product requirements and translate them into a roadmap and code.
- Strategy and Culture: As a core member of our team, contribute to company strategy, nurture and shape our budding culture, and take on diverse responsibilities as we evolve.
Required Experience:
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to pass a background check and obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive and self-motivated mindset with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership.
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP) problems and related toolsets.
- Solid experience in system design and architecture.
- Proven experience working directly with end-users to gather and incorporate feedback.
- Good understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
- Proficiency in Python and TypeScript programming languages.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with large language models (LLMs), especially open-source LLMs.
- Prior experience deploying software in both commercial and government network environments.
- Familiarity with AI/ML model integration into production systems.
Benefits:
- Define your own role and roadmap as the organization scales
- Flexible remote work environment with East Coast time zone alignment
- Comprehensive healthcare, 401(k), and unlimited PTO
- Monthly reimbursement for home internet and phone (up to $150)
- Parental leave: 4 months for birthing parent, 3 months for non-birthing
