About the Company
Element Six is recruiting on behalf of an established enterprise SaaS company that develops a building analytics platform. The platform helps building operators improve equipment performance, energy efficiency, and daily operations by turning large volumes of live equipment data into clear, actionable insights.
About the Role
The company is seeking a hands-on Front-End Engineering Manager to lead a team of three senior front-end engineers while continuing to contribute directly to development. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will own front-end technical direction, guide architectural decisions, and help deliver a reliable, scalable user experience.
This role combines engineering leadership with practical development work. You will collaborate closely with Product to explore operational challenges, prototype solutions, and shape workflows before they become fully defined requirements. You will also help evolve the platform from passive analytics toward more active control and intervention, with a focus on usability, trust, and confident decision-making.
This is a fully remote position available within the United States, with engineering work organized around four-week sprints.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support three senior front-end engineers while remaining actively involved in software development.
- Own front-end architecture, code quality, performance, scalability, security, and user experience standards.
- Review pull requests, resolve technical blockers, and guide important engineering and architectural decisions.
- Partner with Product early in the development process to turn operational challenges into prototypes, workflows, and production-ready features.
- Improve how complex operational data is filtered, visualized, and presented through clear, efficient interfaces.
- Manage day-to-day engineering practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, code reviews, and delivery across four-week sprints.
- Introduce practical AI-assisted development workflows while maintaining appropriate standards for code structure, testing, review, and technical oversight.
- Collaborate with back-end engineers and QA to strengthen automated testing, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), and release quality.
- Help the team balance development speed with maintainability, reliability, and long-term product needs.
Required Qualifications
- Strong, recent hands-on front-end engineering experience with React and modern JavaScript, including ES6+.
- Experience making front-end architecture decisions in a production enterprise SaaS environment.
- Ability to review code, guide senior engineers, and take ownership of critical product functionality.
- Experience beyond component development, including API integration, automated testing, CI/CD, security, performance, and scalability.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical direction to engineers.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product teams and contributing to UI, UX, and workflow decisions.
- Experience building interfaces that work with large, real-time, operational, or otherwise complex datasets.
- Practical experience with AI coding tools and the ability to evaluate generated code for quality, structure, testing, and maintainability.
- Willingness to remain actively involved in coding, code reviews, and technical problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
- Highcharts or Kendo React UI.
- Microsoft Azure.
- Time-series data and visualization.
- Building systems or building technology platforms.
Direct experience in the building technology industry is not required.
Salary & Benefits
The base salary range for this remote US position is $170,000–$190,000 per year, plus benefits.
The role offers the opportunity to lead an experienced engineering team, influence product direction, and remain closely involved in technical decisions and hands-on development.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role is well suited to an engineering manager who wants to stay close to the code or a Principal or Lead Front-End Engineer ready to take formal responsibility for a team. The successful candidate will be comfortable shaping solutions with Product, leading experienced engineers, and balancing technical leadership with direct implementation.
Candidates seeking a role focused primarily on managing a large organization, working only from fully defined requirements, or concentrating solely on visual implementation may find the position less suitable.
