About The Role The Buyer Growth team at Whatnot is dedicated to driving top-of-funnel growth and ensuring the success of first-time buyers. This role focuses on enhancing user acquisition, activation, and early retention by collaborating closely with product, data, design, and marketing teams. As a Fullstack Engineer in this team, you will lead and scale critical growth initiatives such as onboarding flows, referral systems, guest browsing, and notification systems. You will be responsible for designing and owning end-to-end systems that impact millions of users, making architectural decisions to ensure reliability, scalability, and extensibility as the platform grows rapidly. Your work will involve identifying high-leverage growth opportunities, rapidly iterating on experiments, and continuously improving funnels to increase new user conversion and retention. Additionally, you will mentor other engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence across the team. This role offers flexibility to work remotely or from one of the company's global office hubs, with a preference for candidates residing within commuting distance of San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, or Seattle. Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-time, generalist software engineering experience in high-growth technology companies
- Proven track record of delivering impactful, user-facing products autonomously
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Strong foundation in both backend and frontend development, comfortable working across layers and integrating systems end-to-end
- Excellent product instincts with a user-first mindset
- Ability to take ownership of ambiguous areas and drive impactful solutions
- Adaptability to work across multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building e-commerce or social products
- Expertise in mobile and/or full-stack web development frameworks
- Familiarity with growth engineering strategies, A/B testing, and analytics
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale critical growth initiatives such as onboarding flows, referral systems, guest browsing, and notification systems
- Design and own end-to-end systems impacting millions of users, including backend services and frontend experiences
- Make architectural decisions to ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and extensible as the platform scales
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and data science teams to identify and capitalize on high-leverage growth opportunities
- Rapidly iterate on experiments to optimize user acquisition, activation, and retention funnels
- Instrument, monitor, and improve key metrics to drive measurable growth in new user conversion and retention
- Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to elevating engineering standards across the team
