About The Role We are seeking a talented and passionate Software Engineer to join our Product team in Mountain View, CA, or remotely for candidates in the US and Canada. In this role, you will be instrumental in integrating advanced learning science principles into our digital platforms to enhance the educational experience. You will work closely with public school districts, particularly those serving high percentages of students eligible for Free and Reduced Price Lunch, to develop and scale tools that support both teachers and learners. Your contributions will directly impact millions of students and educators by helping bridge educational gaps through innovative technology solutions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a world-class interactive web application, involving scalable backend services and complex frontend interfaces. You will be encouraged to write clean, maintainable, and testable code while collaborating with a diverse, cross-functional team. Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience developing high-quality product experiences for interactive web applications
• Proficiency in building and maintaining complex software systems
• Strong skills in writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams
• Experience with frontend and backend development best practices
• Familiarity with modern web technologies and frameworks
• Understanding of learning science principles and educational technology (preferred)
• Experience with Generative AI / Large Language Models (LLMs) is a plus
• Ability to demonstrate cross-cultural competency and adopt inclusive perspectives
• Passion for education and a commitment to Khan Academy’s mission

Responsibilities

• Integrate cutting-edge learning science into product features to help learners and teachers identify and address learning gaps efficiently
• Partner with public school districts serving diverse student populations to develop scalable tools for educators and students
• Design and implement tools that position Khan Academy as a strategic supplement in classroom settings
• Contribute to the development of a seamless, engaging web app experience, including backend infrastructure and frontend interfaces
• Write clean, scalable, and testable code, and actively participate in code reviews and team discussions
• Collaborate effectively across teams to prioritize features, troubleshoot issues, and deliver impactful solutions
• Engage in regular feedback cycles to continuously improve product quality and user experience
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in all aspects of work, fostering a welcoming environment for diverse learners and colleagues
• Stay informed about advancements in educational technology and incorporate innovative approaches into product development
