About Our Company

Kanopi Studios is a Design, Development & Support Agency with a fully distributed team of experts specializing in Drupal and WordPress. Our mission-driven clients rely on us to design, build, and support websites that help their missions thrive. We believe that the people behind the work are as important as the work itself, which is why we are deeply committed to supporting our team’s growth, well-being, and success. When our team members succeed, our clients benefit, and together we contribute to building a web that works better for everyone. As Kanopi continues to grow, we are excited to welcome a new WordPress Technical Lead to our dynamic team, contributing to innovative projects and collaborative success.

About The Role

Kanopi Studios is seeking a highly skilled WordPress Technical Lead (also known as Senior Engineer II) to join our collaborative, fully remote team. This leadership position involves driving the technical execution of client projects, mentoring developers, shaping architectural decisions, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions. The role combines hands-on development with strategic planning, requiring effective communication with clients, project managers, and internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and guide the project team toward successful outcomes. The WordPress Technical Lead will be responsible for estimating project scope, architecting solutions, coding, reviewing code, and fostering best practices within the team. Reporting to the WordPress Engineering Manager, this role is pivotal in maintaining Kanopi’s standards of quality, collaboration, and inclusivity. The position offers an opportunity to lead complex projects, influence technical direction, and mentor a talented team of developers in a supportive and innovative environment.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience working with WordPress.
  • Deep expertise in WordPress architecture, custom theme and plugin development, full-site editing, and Gutenberg blocks.
  • Proficiency with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), Custom Post Types (CPTs), taxonomies, and REST API integrations.
  • Strong understanding of full-site editing (FSE), templates, and block patterns.
  • Solid skills in JavaScript and React, with Next.js experience considered a plus.
  • Proficiency in PHP and SQL.
  • Experience with development tools such as CLI, GitHub, Docker, and multi-environment deployment workflows.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills, including creating technical specifications and process documentation.
  • Proven experience mentoring or leading developers and managing distributed teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while adhering to project timelines and scope.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative and inclusive approach.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent professional experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US or Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical approach on WordPress projects, ensuring development aligns with client needs and project goals.
  • Collaborate with UX, design, and project management teams during discovery and planning phases.
  • Build and configure WordPress sites using modern development practices, including full-site editing and Gutenberg block development.
  • Develop native Gutenberg blocks utilizing React and build custom themes and plugins as required.
  • Create HTML templates and patterns optimized for full-site editing workflows.
  • Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Review code and technical documentation to maintain quality standards.
  • Lead code peer reviews and promote a culture of best practices within the team.
  • Engage directly with clients to clarify technical requirements and discuss solutions to complex challenges.
  • Manage the workload of the technical team, ensuring project milestones are met and resources are allocated effectively.
  • Stay current with emerging web technologies and incorporate innovative solutions into projects.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $92,050 - $121,825, commensurate with experience and geographic location.
  • Fully remote work environment, allowing flexibility and work-life balance.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Professional development opportunities and support for continuous learning.
  • Generous paid time off and holiday leave policies.
  • Inclusive and collaborative company culture that values diversity and innovation.
  • Supportive environment that prioritizes team well-being and growth.
