The role
You own the product surface. Every screen a broker, underwriter or contractor touches — the agent conversation, the policy structuring workbench, insurer appetite dashboards, client-facing risk dashboards and microsites — is yours to design and build.
We do not have a separate design team and do not want one. We want an engineer who thinks in interfaces: who can take an ambiguous workflow ("an underwriter needs to set appetite per peril per territory without it feeling like a nuclear sub control panel"), sketch it, prototype it in a day, test it with real users and ship it.
The interesting problem is designing for an agent. Kite does most of the work; the human reviews, steers and signs off. That is a new kind of UI — progressive disclosure of what the agent did and why, surfacing uncertainty, keeping a regulated human in the loop without slowing them down. You will be defining those patterns, not copying them.
What you'll do
- Design and build the front end of WeatherWise Studio and WeatherWise Construction, from information architecture to pixel.
- Own the design system: extend our component library, set the visual language and keep it coherent across platform, dashboards and generated microsites.
- Build the interfaces that let brokers and underwriters work alongside Kite — reviewing, correcting and approving agent output with confidence.
- Turn complex weather and financial data into interfaces people can read at a glance: maps, time series, trigger structures, payout curves, portfolio views.
- Use AI tooling as a first-class part of your workflow — generating, prototyping and iterating far faster than a conventional front-end loop.
- Run lightweight user research with brokers, carriers and contractors, and let what you learn change the product.
- Work directly with the CEO, CTO and sales team; set direction for how our product looks and feels for years to come.
What we're looking for
You must have
- 6+ years building production web applications, with deep fluency in React or a comparable modern framework and TypeScript.
- A real design practice, not just an eye: you can show work where you owned the UX and visual design as well as the code, and explain the decisions.
- Strong data-visualisation skills — charts, maps, dense tables — and judgement about when each is the right tool.
- Daily, serious use of AI coding and design tools (Claude Code, Cursor or similar) and opinions on how to get the most from them.
- Experience building interfaces for AI-driven or agentic products, or a credible story about how you would.
- Comfort in a small, senior team: you take ambiguous problems, scope them yourself and ship.
It would be great if you also have
- Experience with map and geospatial libraries (MapLibre, Mapbox, deck.gl) or time-series visualisation at scale.
- Shipped B2B or fintech/insurtech products where trust, auditability and correctness mattered.
- Built or maintained a design system used by more than one team.
- An interest in weather, climate or risk — or an industry we serve.
We care far more about what you have shipped than which exact tools you used. A portfolio or links to live work will count for more than a CV.
