The Opportunity
An ambitious, high-growth technology business is looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer to take technical ownership of a product engineering squad, shaping architecture, driving engineering decisions and delivering software that makes a tangible difference to customers.
This is an opportunity to operate as a senior technical leader without moving into people management. You'll have the autonomy to influence product direction, make key architectural decisions and mentor engineers, while remaining hands-on with the code.
The business is investing heavily in intelligent automation, building technology that simplifies complex transactions and enables customers to make better, faster and more informed decisions. You'll play a key role in developing the next generation of its platform, including AI-driven workflows that can automate increasingly complex processes at scale.
The Role
You'll act as the embedded technical lead for a dedicated engineering squad, taking responsibility for its technical direction, architecture and delivery. Depending on your experience and interests, you could help take a new product from early discovery through to launch, or extend existing capabilities within a growing platform.
You'll work closely with product and commercial stakeholders to understand customer challenges, translate them into technical solutions and ensure the team is building the right things.
Key responsibilities
- Technical leadership: Own your squad's technical direction, making architectural decisions and bringing other engineers along through strong technical judgement.
- Full stack development: Design and deliver end-to-end systems, from backend automation and integrations to customer-facing applications and internal tools.
- System architecture: Build scalable, reliable systems that support increasingly complex workflows and growing customer demand.
- Product development: Work alongside product and commercial teams to explore customer needs, shape ideas and deliver new features from discovery to production.
- AI and automation: Help design intelligent, agent-driven workflows that automate complex processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Engineering excellence: Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, mentoring and hands-on collaboration.
- Platform improvement: Enhance core services, tooling and development practices to help engineering teams build and ship high-quality software.
- Delivery and ownership: Navigate ambiguity, make pragmatic decisions and balance technical quality with the need to deliver meaningful business outcomes.
What We're Looking For
- Experience operating as a Senior or Staff Engineer within a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
- A strong track record of providing technical leadership and influencing engineering decisions without relying on formal management authority.
- Excellent system design and architecture skills, with experience building complex systems across backend services and frontend applications.
- Strong full stack engineering experience. Python and FastAPI, alongside modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as React, would be particularly relevant.
- A product-minded approach, with the ability to engage with customers and stakeholders and translate business problems into practical technical solutions.
- Experience taking ownership of delivery, working through ambiguity and making sound decisions when requirements or priorities are evolving.
- A hands-on approach, with a genuine interest in building, shipping and improving software rather than moving entirely into an advisory role.
Desirable experience:
- Building AI-powered applications, agentic systems or multi-agent workflows.
- Developing internal platforms, tools or applications for operational or commercial teams.
- Working with real-time data processing or event-driven systems.
- Experience in energy, financial services or another regulated industry.
You don't need to tick every box. Strong engineers who can demonstrate sound technical judgement, product thinking and the ability to learn new technologies are encouraged to apply.
