Senior Front-End Engineer | React / Next.js / TypeScript | £400PD (Outside) | Remote
An exciting opportunity has opened up for an experienced Senior Frontend Engineer to join a growing digital engineering team, working on complex, high-profile projects for some of the UK's most recognisable brands.
We're looking for someone who is passionate about building exceptional web experiences, enjoys taking ownership of technical decisions and wants to play a key role in shaping how modern frontend applications are designed and delivered.
This is a hands-on position with plenty of technical influence, combining modern frontend development, architecture, mentoring and exposure to emerging AI technologies.
The Role
You'll be responsible for designing and delivering scalable, high-performing web applications, working closely with product, design and engineering teams to bring ambitious digital experiences to life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of frontend architecture across complex web applications.
- Developing modern, responsive applications using React, Next.js and TypeScript.
- Making architectural decisions around rendering strategies, state management, caching and application performance.
- Building and maintaining reusable UI components and design systems.
- Integrating frontend applications with headless CMS platforms, APIs and backend services.
- Championing engineering best practices across accessibility, performance, security and automated testing.
- Collaborating with designers to transform concepts and prototypes into polished, production-ready interfaces.
- Exploring opportunities to integrate AI-powered functionality into customer-facing applications.
- Supporting and mentoring other engineers through code reviews, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Working directly with stakeholders to shape technical solutions and influence project delivery.
What We're Looking For:
- 6+ years' commercial frontend development experience, with deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
- Strong production experience with Next.js, including App Router, Server Components and modern rendering approaches.
- Previous experience operating as a Senior Engineer or Technical Lead.
- Excellent knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 and modern frontend development practices.
- Strong understanding of web performance optimisation, accessibility and SEO.
- Experience developing component libraries or design systems using tools such as Storybook.
- Experience integrating REST/GraphQL APIs and headless CMS platforms.
- Familiarity with modern testing frameworks such as Jest, Vitest, Playwright or Cypress.
- Hands-on experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to guide technical decisions across engineering teams.
Desirable Experience:
- Exposure to headless CMS platforms such as Contentful, Storyblok or Optimizely.
- Experience building ecommerce platforms or high-traffic consumer applications.
- An interest in AI-powered applications, LLM integrations or conversational interfaces.
- Experience with cloud hosting, CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment platforms.
- Previous experience delivering projects in a consultancy, agency or client-facing environment.
