About the role

Senior Software Engineer (React Native, Expo)

Fully remote in the UK, ***There will be an onsite final stage interview)***

Permanent, up to £80k (DOE) + bonus + benefits

A growing digital sports business is investing in its first dedicated mobile app. Its existing platform has a large audience, and the app will give users a more engaging way to explore detailed sports information on the move.

The app is at an early stage, so you’ll have real scope to shape its architecture and technical foundations, then take it through to launch and beyond. Mobile will be the main focus of the role. You’ll also be part of a collaborative software engineering team, contributing to web products and working together to solve problems across the stack.

The opportunity

You’ll take a leading role in turning an initial React Native prototype into a production app for iOS and Android. You’ll own the project and decide how it should be built, how it works with the wider platform, and how it can be supported and improved after launch. As the product develops, you’ll contribute your broad software engineering experience across the team, including to web development when needed.

Requirements

  • Commercial React Native and Expo experience, including releasing apps through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Strong JavaScript or TypeScript skills and a solid grounding in React and front end development.
  • Comfortable using AI every day
  • A good understanding of mobile architecture, performance, testing and maintainable code.
  • A broad software engineering background, with a sound understanding of how mobile apps, web platforms, APIs and back end services work together.
  • Experience working with APIs and presenting complex data clearly on mobile screens.
  • Ability to investigate platform specific issues, with some exposure to native mobile development such as Swift or Kotlin.
  • Confidence shaping technical decisions and working closely with colleagues across product, design and engineering.
  • A degree in computer science, software engineering or a similar subject is preferred.

Experience with web development would be useful, ideally including tech like React, Vue, Nuxt, Node or PHP. You won’t need experience with any of these, but you should be comfortable picking some of it up and contributing 'beyond mobile' when the team needs it.

Benefits

Private healthcare, group life insurance, a home office budget, an annual learning budget, flexible working, occasional team meetups and lifestyle perks.
