Senior Full Stack Scala Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Scala Engineer to join a Platform & Infrastructure team responsible for the modernization and evolution of a large-scale digital platform.

This role will be instrumental in the migration of existing services to a high-performance Scala-based framework, helping to improve scalability, resilience, and overall platform performance. You'll work on challenging distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern engineering practices while contributing to a strategic technology transformation initiative.

What You'll Do:

As a Senior Full Stack Scala Engineer, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Scala.
• Support the migration of existing services developed in Go, TypeScript, and Python into a modern Scala ecosystem.
• Build and maintain REST and gRPC APIs, distributed services, and event-driven architectures.
• Work across the stack when required, contributing to both backend and frontend development.
• Design and implement communication patterns between services using technologies such as Kafka and Redis.
• Manage infrastructure through Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native deployment practices.
• Monitor production systems, investigate incidents, analyse logs, and improve service reliability.
• Implement security best practices around authentication, authorisation, and sensitive operations.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical decision-making, and code reviews.
• Document solutions, share knowledge, and contribute to engineering best practices across the team.
• Help improve platform scalability, performance, resilience, and operational excellence.

What We're Looking For:

Essential Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Scala.
• Solid understanding of functional programming and concurrent systems.
• Experience building and maintaining distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Proficiency in at least one additional language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, or Python.
• Full-stack development experience, including backend services, frontend applications, and database design.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database concepts.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern DevOps practices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Experience working with event-driven systems and asynchronous messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Good understanding of security principles in software development and operations.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools.
• Excellent communication skills in English.

• Load and performance testing.
• Designing highly resilient and fault-tolerant systems.
